Take advantage of a unique opportunity to study with Southern Seminary Professors while traveling to key historic sites in the United Kingdom, in London, Cambridge and Edinburgh, Oxford, Canterbury, St. Andrews and more.  Participants can receive up to 9 hours of on-campus academic credit in connection to this trip.  Further information about the program is posted on this site.  Come back or sign up for an RSS feed to receive updated information.

Tentative Travel Dates: June 30 – July 19, 2010

The tentative dates of the trip are June 30 - July 19, 2010 [this may be adjusted by one day on either side, depending on flights, accommodations, etc.].

Locations and Accommodation

We will be lodging in London, Edinburgh, and Cambridge, at university student housing.  It is modest, but clean, and well located.   The rooms are small single rooms with a bed, desk, chair, closet and washbasin.

We will be in London about half the time, and from there will take excursions by train to such places as Oxford, Canterbury, Dover, Bath, and Salisbury (and Stonehenge).  These are all readily accessible from London, and make nice day trips.  From Edinburgh we plan to have an excursion to St. Andrews, site of an ancient Scottish University (not to mention the legendary birth place of golf!), and there may be an opportunity for an optional excursion / coach tour through the Scottish highlands, including a stop at Loch Ness.

Meals

Two meals per day are provided as part of the cost of the program.  Breakfast is offered with the accommodation.  An evening meal will be provided,  sometimes with the whole group, and sometimes in smaller groups.  Participants cover the cost of the ‘third meal’.  You may want to bring plenty of meal replacement bars with you.  If you purchase lunch, we recommend $5 – 15 per day, depending on whether you are satisfied with picking up a piece of pizza or a bagel on the go, or if you prefer to purchase a restaurant meal.

Cost

The cost of the trip is $3100 plus airfare.  The price includes travel in country, group excursions, lodging, 2 meals per day, as well as tuition for up to 3 courses.  For those traveling from Louisville, we will purchase the tickets in a block for the group to travel together.  We will get the best rates available at the time.  In the past they have been betwee $900 and $1000.

If you live outside of Louisville and will be traveling directly to London, you will be responsible for purchasing your own airfare.  We will be glad to advise and assist you in that process.  If you live in Louisville and prefer to purchase your own tickets or if you have a free ticket using airline miles, you are welcome to do that.

Additional expenses include your third meal (see above), wireless access in your room (prices for this will be posted when available; in some cases you may find free wireless nearby our housing), optional free-time activities such as the theatre in London, and shopping.

Payment Schedule
